Situated in the beautiful Western Ghats of India, Kodaikanal is an unique hill station known for its serene beauty and refreshing atmosphere.
This charming place, situated at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level, is a favourite destination for both nature lovers and thrill seekers.
Surrounded by dense forests, hills and sparkling lakes, Kodaikanal offers the perfect blend of tranquility and outdoor adventure. It promises a relaxing escape from the daily hassle.
“Come, let’s take a tour of seven must-see spots that perfectly encapsulate this magical place.”
Day 1 – Kodaikanal Village Tour
- Kodaikanal is 80 km away from the base otherwise known as “Kodaikanal Road” and it’s 3 hour ride.
- This Hill Station has 2 parts to be explored, such as “Village side” and “Local sightseeings”.
- So it’s advisable to spend at least 2 to 3 days for better experience.
- As soon as you reach your hotel, freshen up and search for nearby tour providers on Google.
- As Cabs are not functional in here, you ought to opt a tour provider.
- Negotiate for a best price. Or you could just book our package with ease at an affordable pricing.
Although there are two transport options to opt from such as 1) Mini Bus 2) Car. I would suggest you to go for a car especially if you are travelling with your family for a comfortable and privacy infused experience.
Ask them to take you out for the “village tour” as it is relatively takes less time than the local sightseeing (which you can cover for a full day tomorrow).
Village Tour, must visit places.
1) Mannavanur Lake View
This lake has to be the most beautiful spot to spend some quality time, thanks to it’s natural elements.
Plenty of movies were shot just here by the lake, because of it’s breath taking views. After spending a short while here, let’s head to the next the magical place.
2) Gundar Falls – Kodaikanal
Head here only if you are fit enough to trek for a little while. But all the efforts are completely worthy as this falls mesmerises you with it’s wide spread streams of water.
And the trek experience is itself an unique one as you will be surrounded by super tall trees all around.
Make sure to wear some comfortable shoes for this trek.
3) Poombarai Village View
Don’t miss this place as it offers amazing panaramic views of “Poombarai Village”. It looks straight out of a fictional world. You could get aesthetic pictutres of youself to create some enduring memories.
Additional tip
In this day trip (village side) you gonna get an opportunity to visit 5 to 6 more places apart from the above mentioned places. Such as
- Pine Forest
- Murugan Temple ( 3000 years old)
- Palani view
- Boating and Horse ride at Mannavnur lake
- Mahalakshmi Temple
- Sheep Farm
Visit most of them if not all of them according to the time you have got, after prioritising the top 3 mentioned places for a memorable day and to make much of what you pay for this day trip.
Day 2 – Local sightseeing in Kodaikanal
Similar to yesterday, you ought to either hire or continue with last day’s tour provider to start this trip as Cabs are not functional in Kodaikanal.
Start your trip by 9 or 10 Am as there are plenty of places to explore.
I’ll mention the top and must visit places followed by all the places you get to visit in this day trip.
4) Moir Point
Moir Point is a scenic viewpoint and It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, making it a favorite destination for tourists seeking natural beauty.
As you can see the iconic Kodaikanal view of waterfalls in between the mountains. Moir Point is a popular location for photographers because of its natural beauty.
The changing colours of the landscape, especially during sunrise or sunset, provide excellent photo opportunities.
5) Upper lake view
This location is my personal favourite spot as it truly resembles Europe and you will be left in awe. Although there is no proper place to stand and watch this viewpoint, but make sure to spend at least 20 minutes here because there’s no match to this place at least in whole south India.
6) Piller rocks
Pillar Rocks is famous for its three huge granite rocks that stand close to each other to a height of about 400 feet. This viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape including deep valleys and mist covered hills.
Pillar Rocks has a well-maintained viewing platform that offers visitors a safe and comfortable place to enjoy the stunning views.
7) Liril falls
Last but not the least, there are 2 more waterfalls to be reckoned but as i’ve been to all of them, i have to suggest that this falls is just a fairytale of place. It acquired it’s name, after the Liril soap’s advertisement was shot here. There’s a lot of lush green open area to sit around for a proper Picnic while watching this falls.
Just opposite to this there are a lot of shops for the locally grown coffee and for locally made delicious chocolate, Make sure to visit them.
